Today, developing their own methods does no longer make sense for most enterprises. In fact, they adopt international standards or adapt them. Deploying a standard reduces frictional loss, supports quality and qualification norms, enhances corporate image and establishes a joint vocabulary not only within the organisation but also with customers and partners
The question is, which standard is the "right" one? To answer this question, corporate culture and enviroment has to be considered. To give you a few indicators please find below some standards that can be applied to any kind of industry: - PMI and PMBOK Guide from the US
The PMBOK Guide (A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge) is considered THE standard of the Project Management Institute in the US and enjoys widespread acceptance. It is mailny used for complex, international projects of US-based organisations. It is a perfect fit for enterprises that plan to conduct largescale, international projects as a team effort.
- PRINCE2® from Great Britain
is rather a project management process, originally developed by the British government. PRINCE2 (PRojectsIN Controlled Enviroments) is goal-oriented, it provides instructions for project members and can be recommended for European organisations or mid-sized projects.
Both standards offer adequate qualification programs for project team members, finalizing in individual certificates: Seminars preparing for these certifications can be found here.
